{Sweet}cakes first real gig...

Dear Rachey Pooh-

Yesterday Si Fri and I headed out to the suburbs to cater her little company's first real event!

You know Si Fri... she's got mad skillz in the kitchen...
The event was a bridal shower and everything was ordered in a miniature version...

She made chocolate fudge cake pops (side note* I normally hate cake pops with a passion... but hers were to. die. for.)

Miniature carrot cakes, topped with praline toffee brittle...

and mini lemon bundt cakes soaked in a light lemon glaze with fresh blueberries on top...

As Rachel Zoe would say... it was "Ba-naaaaah-nuuuuhs!" (Lately, I've been for realz obsessed with Rachel Zoe Project... I lurv her! Except... she's kind of weird and it makes me nervous because I kind of feel like I might be a little Zoe-esque at times... thoughts??)

We had so much fun! We both wore our Anthro aprons... and worked the room...

You would be proud too... I carefully applied each and every little blue polka dot to the individual cake pops... with tweezers... be. impressed.

Luff yoooose- Hansy
PS. We tots stopped for Dairy Dream ice cream on the way home... Ah heaven!

Midnight Gardening: 5 for 5

So many great things this week....hmmm....

My number one for wonderful thing would have to be the playsuit I made for Kristopher and mine anniversary today. Because clothes for me is something we can both enjoy.

Number two: My sister-in-law's house on Thursday night. She was baking up a storm for a baby shower she is throwing and there was cake everywhere. The kitchen, the bathroom, the man-den...

Number three: This swimsuit. That. I. LOVE.

Number four: Being done with my animal behavior exam. Fun Fact: The presence of Alpha male mouse urine causes female mice to ovulate.

Number five: If I had these shoes I would sleep in them. And walk in them.

P.S. My husband and brother are out behind our apartment midnight gardening. Those cute little beans are planting strawbs.

Where is my particle transporter?

I flew all day yesterday.

I hate flying.

Especially when it means that I'm moving farther and farther away from my sister.
We had such a good time this long weekend:
watching dumb movies
(i.e. the Amanda Bynes classic "She's the Man"),
shopping
(i.e. leaving Anthropologie empty handed and broken hearted),
consoling
(i.e. Hannah talking in baby voice to me to get me to stop missing Kristopher),

stuffing our pie holes
(with everything but pie),
avoiding working on the shop
(which was the original point of the trip)...

The good Lord gave me a good sister...
She should just have a baby and move to Idaho already.

Beyonce and her Contribution to the Femenist Movement during the early 1990s.

Cardigan: Target Dress: Anna Sui, thrift Tights: Old Navy Boots: Thrift

I'm currently working on a paper for my non-fiction class
It's about footnotes
and
it's written all in footnotes
footnotes within footnotes.
A large chunk of it is dedicated to Beyonce.

Maybe I'll post it when it's finished.

There are two kinds of people in this world...

Those who love Martha Stewart... and those who love Julia Childs...

And in honor of my home girl Julia... I put on my cutest apron... Worked my favorite pearls...

and made a cake...

Because it's someone specials birthday... And at least once a week we should all have a reason to wear pearls!

You can just ignore the sweatpants and slippers under the apron... Though I was channeling Julia... A sista has still got to stay true to herself!

Ps... How much do you love my anthropologie apron?? Si fri bough it for me!

Knock-off Nymph Net

As always Anthropologie made a beautiful necklace that I couldn't afford. Fortunately for me, Martha Stewart made the exact same one and posted a tutorial!

Time: 50 minutes
Cost: 10$
Results: Pretty good if I do say so myself!

Nautical Knot Belt

While riding the wave of the interweb recently, I came across this beautiful necklace and knew I had to make a belt  inspired by it! I've always loved a nautical motif and for the price and time this belt took, I grew only to love it more...

Total Cost: $9
Total Time: 54 minutes (what a perfect mid-morning break from the ol' calculator and chemistry!)

Tuesday Tutorial... Knotted Throw Pillows

Laura (sister-in-law) passed along a great tutorial regarding how to make a gorgeous duvet. I pared it down A LOT to cover a couple of ugly old throw pillows instead!

Total cost: .94 cents.
Total time: 28 minutes.

A
definite
success.

Where did the third pillow go?
Ran out of time, two in one hour though...not bad!

Anthropologie's "Crysanthimum Crown" Tutorial or how to make a chrysanthemum look like a sea urchin

At the steep price of 218$ it was obvious that I had to try and replicate this delicate headband. While mine looked a little more sea urchin-y than botanical I still think that the general feel was captured despite the species change. And have I got to tell you, I LOVE my new headband! Costing only  55 cents (I had many of the materials already) and taking only 49 minutes of my time, frugal never looked so good…

Now it's your turn!

First Ever Tutorial Tuesday!

Hello-

My name is Rachel ETTA Johanna K, one of the inspirations for the name of the shop and also Hannah's younger sister. Hannah thought I should introduce myself to her readers a little instead of just splashing them in the face with a cold gust of a guest post so here goes:

I am a student.
And that consumes most of my time.

Introductions out of the way...Let's get started.
