I'm blaming it on Mom.

I have a syndrome.
It's been passed down from my Mama to me.
And guys, it's bad.

There's no technical term for what I have, but the symptoms are extreme panic, sore, burnt or pricked finger tips, crafting galore, rushing around in a frenzy, minor meltdowns, etc. etc.

Realistically, I've inherited the "Come-up-with-really-incredible-ideas-for-handmade-Christmas-presents-for-all-40-people-in-your-family-just-one-week-before-Christmas-then-attempt-to-make-all-said-presents-in-the-limited-time-you-have-available" syndrome.

Like I said, it's bad.

Happens every year and each year seems to get a bit worse.

But-
there are a few something wonderfuls about the syndrome.

1. As each Christmas project gets marked off the list the anticipation of going home builds and builds.
2. I watch non-stop Christmas movies while I work away.
3. Chocolate. There is always chocolate involved when the syndrome flares up. I think it helps tame some of the aforementioned symptoms.
4. I'm surrounded by loveliness the whole time... beautiful fabric, ribbons and lace galore.
5. I sometimes gt to experience what Rach was talking about here.

wrapped up in yuletide love,
Hansie

Fall Favorites: Guest Post from Liz of "Cotton & Curls"

Oooh Lovelies... have we got something special for you today!
The beautiful, creative and all around talented Liz from Cotton and Curls is here today to talk about her Fall Favorites and we are so so so stinkin' excited!

Mostly because she's adorable....
has mad sewing skillz...
is living in Shanghai (where Hannah's hubs family is from!)
and has the ca-utest blog ever! We just luff her and we know you will to!
Checks it!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey Etta Grace readers! I'm Liz from Cotton and Curls and I was asked to post about my fall favorites…and really I could go on forever because fall IS my favorite season! Why you ask? Well, if I had to pick just 3 reasons, which would be very hard to do, they would be the holidays (mmmm, looooove costumes, scary movies and family reunions), the changing leaves with it's cooler weather, and mostly, of course, the fashion! I will always and forever look forward to fall fashion. I get to layer and layer and layer the colder it gets, its wonderful! I have yet to see China cool down, it is actually perfect and in the 70s, but I'm slowly pulling out the sweaters, stockings, blazers, long sleeved button ups, and maxis more and more everyday. And when crisp fall weather finally makes its appearance here, I will know exactly what I want to wear, and it perfectly coincides with telling you guys my favorite fashion trends this fall!

I'm LOVING the outwear this season with its the capes, ponchos, nautical buttoned blazers adorned with fur, elbow patches, tassels, fun buttons, and more. I love the tall sexy, yet sophisticated boots and wedged heels that make an outfit so stylin'. And I'm mostly in love with the colors this fall...oh the beautiful colors! Growing up I always felt that bright fun colors were only left to be worn in spring and summer. Its liberating! I can wear almost whatever I want! Wahoo!

And more than I love to wear fall fashion, I love to sew it! Like this scarf and box pleat paper bag skirt. The endless possibilities! Oh my oh my do I love everything about the fall!!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks so much Liz!
We're so inspired with all that fashion! Just might have to sew something fall-ish this weekend!

Hugs,

5 for 5: Hannah's Five Reasons... This Week Was Wonderful!

Dear...

This week was busting with wonderfulness... b-uh-sting!
5 reasons it was wu-huh-nder-full...

1. Glitter. Loving anything and everything glittery... including my new $4 ballet flats. Love!
2. Hubs sent in his garmin watch to be repaired... they sent back two! Bonus!!
Don't worry... we're on the up and up around here... Hubs is going to send the extra one back.
3. Oh manis and pedis... I love you so!
4. Packing... (while I generally hate packing just about as much as I hate unpacking...
case in point... It's been just over 2 months since I got back from China and I have one completely full bag still packed... meh.
I have been throwing it all in a suitcase because one of the Hub's and my favs is getting married this weekend... Hooray!

5. Remember how I wanted to make my own version of this?

And now I get to "YMCA" to my hearts content in it at the wedding!

The Weekend in Review...

Dear,

This weekend was stuffed to the brim with lovely goodness!

"Build your own" pizza night with cute friends from out of town and a new baby!
Joann runs with my girls
Mexican food... yum!
Church... so good!
Sewing, sewing and more sewing... ;)

But the highlight... was date night with the Hubs...

Some fabulous friends of ours gave us a groupon for two free hours of kayaking...
It was lovely!
After kayaking, Hubs and I picked up a baguette and fancy cheese...

With dinner in hand we headed to the park to watch a movie
Chicago does a fantastic job of showing free movies during the summer in parks throughout the city!
We saw the Karate kid and held hands...
It was the perfect night!

How was your weekend lovelies??

Diabetic Mice: Weekend in Review

First weekend of the summer was spent with a day trip up to my parents house. It was really wonderful until we had to leave and my little sister Ina started crying....

That girl breaks my heart every time, but we'll be up to see her next weekend
so tuck those tears back up in those ducts lil sistah...

on a brighter note: EttaGrace will be getting some great bloomers and tassel-y shorts in soon...
I cannot wait to get sewing again!

Rach

p.s. I start at the lab tomorrow.
I am both excited a nervous to explore the world of

Midnight Gardening: 5 for 5

So many great things this week....hmmm....

My number one for wonderful thing would have to be the playsuit I made for Kristopher and mine anniversary today. Because clothes for me is something we can both enjoy.

Number two: My sister-in-law's house on Thursday night. She was baking up a storm for a baby shower she is throwing and there was cake everywhere. The kitchen, the bathroom, the man-den...

Number three: This swimsuit. That. I. LOVE.

Number four: Being done with my animal behavior exam. Fun Fact: The presence of Alpha male mouse urine causes female mice to ovulate.

Number five: If I had these shoes I would sleep in them. And walk in them.

P.S. My husband and brother are out behind our apartment midnight gardening. Those cute little beans are planting strawbs.

I love him so much: I would use his skin to wallpaper my room

This was the cover
When Kristopher and I took poetry together last semester this was one of the lines in one of the love poems I wrote:
"oh, the scent from your neck
is my wrists great perfume.
And with the skin
from your palm
I would paper my room."

Needless to say, people got creeped out and I was forced into early retirement. Which was too bad, because that  verse was part of a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure love poem. Groundbreaking stuff.

Husbot and my first anniversary is this friday and I am making something SPECTACULAR  to wear. I can't wait to show it to you guys...well, mainly I can't wait to show it to Kristopher but....THEN you guys, you guys are definitely the second people I would show it to.

p.s. I've been working on the EttaGrace bloomers that are set to arrive mid-may! Keep those eye-lipticals peeled.

p.p.s. I am making this cake for family dinner on wednesday. Let's hope it turns out as purty....

sweetened condensed milk disaster: weekend in review

My weekend was full of rummage sales, cupcakery, and sewing.
And Bike-riding, card playing, and raining.
All pretty nice things.

Unfortunately, my computer broke and it won't be up until tuesday.
And I have a million projects due.
And my cupcakes tasted weird.

But I've made some cute new (hand-sewn)  bloomers to ease the pain.
And a potential new headband design for EttaGrace!
And a cute little husbot to keep me on my toes
(because he's too tall to kiss flatfooted)...

So...yeah, I guess thangs is cool.

Any hot news from the forefront of y'alls weekends?
