Devon Street.

Chicago is such an incredible town.
With over 225 different neighborhoods, it's one of the most diverse city in the country.

One of my favorite things about living in Chicago is exploring all of its little nooks and crannies...
with Rach in town last weekend it was the perfect excuse for both of us to forget about school and explore this wonderful city!

Ahhh... Devon Street.
This street on the north side of the city is known for it's Indian population.
The food is amazing and the fabric soooooo beautiful.

We ate until we almost popped and then we roamed the streets "ooohing" and "ahhhing" over all of the prettiness Devon Street offers.

Next stop. India.

Things to Do: Chicago

Whenever Hansie and I get together we always make all these plans
of the things we're going to do,
sewing, running, working on the blog...
and, inevitably, it ends up with us watching movies and
eating too much.
So I've devised a plan.
And while this plan still involves a fair amount of eating,
at least it will be eating in public instead of
under a blanket
and the dewy gaze of the thinner lipped
1990s version of Meg Ryan...
1.Black Dog Gelato for a whiskey gelato bar
2. A little surrealist photography compliments of Claude Cahun and the Art Institute of Chicago
3. The Hideout to dance with too many ironic mustaches and people who collect things even more antiquated that typewriters. Things like turn of the century surgical equipment and pagers.
or, maybe, we'll just go for story night
4. Jimmy Jamm Sweet Potato Pie for our daily dose of vitamin K
5. Maybe hit up the farmhouse for some down home handcrafted ginger ale and fig and toffee bread pudding
6. Karaoke anyone?
7. Of course we'll need some Packzi from delightful pasteries. Because it's the season.

Plus
vegan restaurants
Plus
chinatown
Plus
shopping
Plus
mani-pedi
Plus
Cuddletimes
...
Think it can happen in three days?

any suggestions?

The Weekend in Review... blah blah blah

Guys, this weekend was fun... but blah blah blah...

I spent over 8 hours in Starbucks studying. Yea!
Had dinner with friends, movie with the Hubs...

It was good.
blah blah blah

But- the best part was not the stuff that got accomplished or the fun stuff I did.
The BEST part was the fact that I was given a free airplane ticket to use however I wanted!
(All thanks to my sweet sis-in-law! Thanks Fran!!!!)
Only catch?
It had to be used by March 1st.

So this Thursday, my cute-as-a-button Rach-Cha-Cha is coming to Chicago to visit!

Hip hip hooraysies!!!

Idaho never felt so close!

Lipstick, car rentals & the first thing she ever bought from a vending machine.

Um, my sisters.
Well,
they're kind of amazing.

They know just how to make a boring errand
(like trading out your car rental at the airport 45 minutes away)
into all sorts of fun.

Just bring a tube of lipstick to look lovely with...

And a little change to treat your youngest sis to her very first vending machine treat.

Ahhh seesters. They're kind of the best.

Twizzles,
Hansie

Swim, Swam, Swumming: Rachel's weekend in review

Krister swimming
Every year my in-laws participate in the Longbridge swim in Sandpoint, ID. The swim is 1.76 miles which it the length of the bridge that crosses part of lake pend oreille and then some. So I've been training for it and working towards being the first of the family out of the water. The swim was this Saturday, and after the most uninspiring pep talk imaginable (for some reason that announcer couldn't go two sentences without mentioning someone getting hit by a car or getting their leg cut off while swimming…it was okay though because he qualified it by shouting, "is everyone having fun?! We're here to have fun!) of course I get beat by my father-in-law, which I half expected because he beats everyone every year (he's got the height of a small giant on his side). But on top of that I get beat by the hus-bot! He didn't swim more than a mile before this and he has a beard! I mean, c'mon….that thing has got to create some serious drag!

Other than that, my sister and brother-in-law came up for the swim and I finally divulged my secret about how I'm not super into playing games (Krissy-Kat's family are big game players)…I think the confession went over well…it just makes it hurt that much more for them when I win at farkle.
Oh yeah, and I learned reason number 40 million not to have a dog: They trip you and make you rip your new-pants-that-you-love-because-they-are-the-only-paper-bag-pants-that-you've-been-able-to-buy-without-making-you-look-like-a-total-long-butted-flat-butt-horse-girl.
Which leads me to my ninth point…here are some pictures of my little sister and me. I feel like she ups the overall cuteness factor of a photo. Deal with it.

also, I'm vegan now.

Diabetic Mice: Weekend in Review

First weekend of the summer was spent with a day trip up to my parents house. It was really wonderful until we had to leave and my little sister Ina started crying....

That girl breaks my heart every time, but we'll be up to see her next weekend
so tuck those tears back up in those ducts lil sistah...

on a brighter note: EttaGrace will be getting some great bloomers and tassel-y shorts in soon...
I cannot wait to get sewing again!

Rach

p.s. I start at the lab tomorrow.
I am both excited a nervous to explore the world of
diabetic mice.

Where is my particle transporter?

I flew all day yesterday.

I hate flying.

Especially when it means that I'm moving farther and farther away from my sister.
We had such a good time this long weekend:
watching dumb movies
(i.e. the Amanda Bynes classic "She's the Man"),
shopping
(i.e. leaving Anthropologie empty handed and broken hearted),
consoling
(i.e. Hannah talking in baby voice to me to get me to stop missing Kristopher),

stuffing our pie holes
(with everything but pie),
avoiding working on the shop
(which was the original point of the trip)...

The good Lord gave me a good sister...
She should just have a baby and move to Idaho already.
